Web Development Engineer

UBS Research is in the process of building a street-leading primary research platform called Evidence Lab. At the heart of this capability is the ability to systematically gather, cleanse, structure and analyze primary data about the companies and markets that we do research on. We are looking for talented and experienced technology engineers to build out and operate within a new technology team.

UBS Research is seeking talented engineers and web scraping gurus to build a state of the art big-data web harvesting system. You will work as a team to build, design, and experiment with next generation web harvesting techniques (e.g. generic web harvesting, NLP based web harvesting, statistically based data analysis, etc.) in collaboration with regional Evidence Lab and Research teams to launch new primary research data gathering and analysis solutions. The role is located in the UBS office in Zabierzow (Krakow Business Park)

Responsibilities
• Developing new web harvesters and maintenance of existing harvesters
• Technically analyzing web pages and their underlying technologies
• Investigating data issues and statistical anomalies of harvested data
• Working with New York analysts and fellow team members to review new and existing requirements Requirements:
• 3+ years web development experience
• 2+ years database experience
• 2+ years in Python, C#, Java, or a comparable language
• Experience using JavaScript libraries and AJAX technologies
• Knowledge of Browser-Web Server interaction including DNS, HTTP, SSL, GET vs POST
• Very good written and spoken English
• Attention to detail
• Ability to self-manage and prioritize workload
• Strong communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Fluency in multiple relevant languages

Additional Assets:
• Success solving web scraping or search challenges
• Administration or creation of Web Servers (IIS,Tomcat) or Web Services
• Experience with data cleansing and analysis
• Knowledge of Kapow Katalyst
• An ability to think outside of the box and solve abstract, ill-defined problems
• Demonstrated ability to propose and implement new solutions or ideas
• Data modeling experience
