Fruitful Sunday
On Sunday afternoon Miss Dorothy Pratt and Mr Edward Palgrove were going out of town. They had a date together. While ride Miss Pratt saw a fruit store and it made she wanted to buy something there. They stopped and Mr Palgrove asked for basket of cherries. Salesman gave him one and said this basket would bring them luck. He meant it was more valuable than they paid for it.
In next part of their date Miss Pratt read in newspaper about robbery of Ruby Necklace which was worth £50,000. Dorothy said she would like to see necklace like that.
Next, they talked and ate cherries. Suddenly, Miss Pratt took from the basket instead of cherries a necklace of blood-red stones. They were surprised! They realised it was the robbed necklace. Mr Palgrove wanted to return it to the police, but Miss Pratt thought about keeping it. Finally they decided to sell it to a fence and made their dreams come true.
In the morning Miss Pratt called to Mr Edward and said she wanted to meet him before selling the necklace because she was afraid of committing a sin. While he was waiting for her he read in newspaper surprising news. When Miss Pratt came He told her to put the necklace on because he read in newspaper that the police had got the rubies. Mr Edward gave her the newspaper and made to read. Miss Dorothy got know that baskets of fruits which were sold yesterday contained an imitation of necklace. It was a new advertising dodge.

  • 'During the ride',
  • 'and it made her wanting to buy something',
  • 'more valuable than what they paid for it',
  • 'fence'?? chyba chodzilo o cos innego
  • 'and make their dreams'
  • 'Miss Pratt called Mr Edwad'
  • 'and made to read'? 'made her read' jezeli juz, ale to tez bez sensu (zmusil ja, zeby przeczytala?)
  • 'got know' w sensie dowiedziala sie? jak tak to 'found out',
  • 'which had been sold' - wczesniej byly sprzedane
  • 'dodge' - to tez o cos innego, dodge to sztuczka, ale w sensie uniku, taka podejrzana sztuczka. Jako sztuczka marketingowa to predzej 'advertising trick'

Tyle zauwazylem :)

pozdrawiam

fence = paser
advertising dodge - tak bylo w ksiazce.
made her read - chodzili mi, ze kazel jej przeczytac

fence - rzeczywiscie, nie zauwazylem w slowniku tego dodatku - normalnie to plot, czy ogrodzenie :)
Jak kazal, to dalbym 'asked her to read it', bo make jest czysto w znaczeniu zmusil, a to duzo mocniej.

  • advertising dodge - jak bylo w ksiazce, to ok, w moim slowniku tego nie ma po prostu :)

No tak. Ale wszyscy zapomnieli o rodzajnikach:

  • asked for a basket of cherries,
  • the Salesman gave him one,
  • In the next part,
  • read in a newspaper,
  • about a robbery,
  • a Ruby Necklace,
  • like to see the necklace,

Poza tym ja bym napisał:

  • it made her want to buy something
  • gave him one and said that basket would
  • Miss Pratt took a blood-red stones necklace instead of cherries from the basket

I na koniec jedna uwaga. Fruit tak jak na przykład sheep, advice czy fish nie posiada formy liczby mnogiej.
