We are looking for a seasoned data engineer and back-end developer who will be in charge of our data stores and responsible for their design, completeness, availability and integrity. This is a part-architect, part-maintainer and part-developer position in which you will be given time to do things right and empowered to make consequential decisions. If you are successful, there will be further opportunities to grow, including involvement in our analytics and machine learning work.
Must-haves
- Thorough understanding of SQL
- Proven DBA skills, ideally with PostgreSQL
- Linux system administration and proficiency with the command line
- Proficiency in Python, including Django
- Familiarity with cloud computing, esp. AWS
- Commitment to best practices of software development
- An independent and proactive nature
- Three years of relevant professional experience
- Interest in football (soccer)
- Fluent spoken and written English
Desirable
- Post-graduate degree in a quantitative discipline
- Understanding of probability and statistics
- Familiarity with sports data
- Familiarity with JavaScript, esp. AngularJS
- Proven record of independent remote work
