Do you want to be part of a team of engineers solving problems to help scale and improve the technical support team for one of the leading internet software companies? A technical support team that that is providing service to thousands of the leading media, retail, high tech, financial, and emerging internet business in the world?

The Application and Systems Architect works in a global environment acting as the technical liaison between stakeholders and the Technical Support Engineering team. In this role you will work closely with Technical Support Engineers and Managers to understand the problems they face daily while troubleshooting product issues and diagnosing customer's cases. The Architect will identify solutions and design applications that speed the resolution of customer problems. Applications will be built on varied technologies chosen based on the requirements and project use cases. The role would involve solving business problems using some of the cutting edge technologies in the application developed and data intelligence space. Architects will own translating the business problems into technical requirements and ensuring that their vision is brought to life by the Technical Support Engineering Team.

About the Team

The Technical Support Engineering team is a strategic expansion to the Akamai Technical Support team. The engineering team will work with all divisions of the global technical support organization. The overall organization is responsible for supporting our global customers, which include many Fortune 500 corporations. The focus for the engineering team will be to solve problems that will lead to a better and faster support experience for Akamai's customers.

The team's mission is to develop, maintain, and operate applications that reduce the amount of time spent by Technical Support Engineers to resolve customer cases.

Wymagania i obowiązki


*Interact with the stakeholders/customers to understand the business requirements/use-cases and convert them into technical requirements
* Build high-level and low-level design including Class diagrams, Interaction diagrams and Sequence diagrams
* Prototyping new ideas and tools in order to prove out the effectiveness and impact of solutions
* Identify common problems faced by Support Engineers and design solutions to automate tasks that will significantly reduce the time it takes to diagnose and mitigate the customer problem
* Develop core components of the software/solutions and assist/guide developers in building the end-to-end solution
* Act as the liaison between the customer facing Support Engineers and the Software Engineers with a focus on driving adoption of tools as well as being the voice of the Support Engineer and representing their interests within the Technical Support Engineering team
* Work independently and with team members, lead(s), engineers and members of Akamai Technical Support in all offices worldwide
* Work closely with other team members, project managers, and customer to ensure that all requirements and met and work as per specification
* Work individually and as part of a team, communicating daily updates to lead and/or manager via written status and issue-tracking system updates
* Recommend modifications to processes and procedures, and contribute to best practices, architecture, and implementations
* Practice continual learning and strive to improve your technical, project, and people skills


Basic Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
* 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or
* 6 years of relevant experience and a Master's degree or
* 3 years of relevant experience and a PhD or equivalent professional experience
* 8+ years of experience with Internet technologies
* 1-2 years of experience with front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript libraries like DoJo, JQuery etc
* 1-2 years of experience with build platforms such as Maven/Git/Jenkins, Ant scripting
* 1-2 years of experience with emerging technologies specifically NodeJS and related frameworks like Backbone, Ember, SocketIO etc
* 2 or more years of experience with Java/C++/Python etc. in a hands-on development role
* 2 or more years of experience with Core Python and MVC frameworks like Django, Flask or Web2Py
* 1-2 years of experience with relational and SQL based databases like MySQL. NoSQL based databases like MongoDB, CouchDB and time series databases like InfluxDB, Blueflood
* 1-2 years of experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Elastic, GDFS
* Machine learning experience a plus

Desired Qualifications

* Strong familiarity with project management software, such as MS Project, SVN, and open source tools such as Redmine, Jira etc
* Works independently and is self-motivated, takes initiative, overcomes obstacles, and solves problems
* Excellent problem solving and programming skills; proven technical leadership and communication skills
* Able to quickly master and apply new technologies and stay abreast of industry trends
* Possess strong passion for learning new/emerging technologies and has a very high technical problem solving acumen
* Experience with Content Distribution Networks
* Hands on experience in troubleshooting/customer technical support
* Design or development of tools that automate diagnostics or troubleshooting
* Ability to drive or develop automation tools
* Knowledge of basic networking security principles
* Passion for solving problems
* Solid working knowledge of Internet technologies such as Web 2.0, Mobile development (Android/iOS), Python, PHP stack, J2EE (Weblogic, Apache Tomcat)
* Exposure to CSS frameworks like Bootstrap
* Knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce, Google Cloud) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems
